1 Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown [stephanos, a garland of gladness and/or victory], stand firm thus in the Lord, my beloved.

2 I entreat Euodia and I entreat Syntyche to agree in the Lord. [Two women within the church fellowship who had apparently quarreled with one another to whom Paul entreats to have the same mind, looking at one another through the eyes of Jesus.] 3 Yes, I ask you also, true companion [comrade? a person’s name that is a description?], help these women, who have labored side by side with me in the gospel together with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life. [A Christian’s service may go unnoticed on earth, but God knows them, which calls for rejoicing!]

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. [Paul calls for constant rejoicing.] 5 Let your reasonableness [graciousness] be known to everyone [outside the church]. The Lord is at hand [he will return and therefore they]; 6 do not [need to be] be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [the Rite I blessing we find in the Book of Common Prayer].

Prayer

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
