18 Since many boast according to the flesh, I too will boast. 19 For you gladly bear with fools, being wise yourselves! 20 For you bear it if someone makes slaves of you, or
devours you, or takes advantage of you, or puts on airs, or strikes you in the face. 21 To my shame, I must say, we were too weak for that!
Many Corinthians have boasted about their fallen, sinful inclinations. Paul shames them by showing how foolish they have been in accepting the false apostles. Then he sarcastically says he does not act like they do because he is weak!
Dear Lord, I thank you for calling me to share with others your precious gift of laughter. May I never forget that it is your gift and my privilege. As your children are rebuked in their self-importance and cheered in their sadness, help me to remember that your foolishness is wiser than men’s wisdom.
