Mark 1:14-15, Jesus Begins His Ministry

14 Now after John was arrested [Mark will tell the story later about why John was arrested], Jesus came into Galilee [returning from his trip to the Jordan River to be baptized by John and then his time in the wilderness], proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God [the final state of affairs where God’s supreme reign is fully realized over the transformed universe and in the hearts of all his redeemed and glorified people] is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” [When God is near, people repent in response to his holy presence. And because of the signs and miracles of Jesus, people believe in the good news he preaches and presents to them.]
