On Your Mark, Get Set . . .
On Your Mark, Get Set . . .

So far this year I've shared some thoughts on theology and looked at the 39 Articles of Religion, jumping into some theological reflections for several of months.

Now I want to get back to writing on a gospel I have yet to cover: Mark. His is the shortest of the gospels. It leaves out the birth of Jesus and many of the parables that Luke and Matthew cover. Mark records only 9 parables compared to Matthew's 23 and Luke's 28.

Mark writes his Gospel to present the witness of the apostles, especially Peter, to the facts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. He depicts Jesus as the true Israelite who fully submits to God. From the start, he depicts Jesus as the divine Son of God, emphasizing the importance of his preaching and that the gospel is the power of God over evil and sickness. Mark also records Jesus’ interest in the Gentiles and the validity of the church’s mission to the Gentiles. As the shortest of the gospels, Mark’s compact telling of the life of Jesus is a great an evangelist tool we will explore together.
