Today I return to the Gospel of Luke and so that we can know Jesus in God’s Word.

“The Word” is Jesus himself. Our aim is to know Jesus better by reading “The Word” of God. By knowing Jesus better, we can make him known to others as we live out our daily lives. The discipline of daily Bible reading and prayer is part of being a follower of Jesus. It keeps us anchored in him in intimate relationship through the Holy Spirit as his word speaks to us and we speak back to him in prayer. This format is meant to equip you as a follower of Jesus (a disciple) that you may know him and love him more for what he has already done for you, is doing for you, and will do for you.

After a Thanksgiving message tomorrow, we will explore the first four verses of Luke on Friday and then spend time getting to know more about our author and the background of his gospel. The schedule of readings is organized from Luke’s birth narrative of Jesus at Christmas, getting into Jesus’ adult life in 2026. My prayerful desire is that Knowing The Word will feed you, remembering what Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone” (Luke 4:4) “but by every word that comes from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4b).

Prayer:

Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
