Knowing The Word in Luke 24:44-49, Jesus Opens the Disciples' Minds

The fulfilment of Scripture is one of Luke’s major themes. There is no part of Scripture—the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms—that does not speak about these things, namely the death and resurrection of Jeus. Jesus also reminds his disciples of all that he had taught beforehand about his death and resurrection and that this was the plan all along. As on the road to Emmaus, his disciples’ minds are open. They are called to proclaim repentance and forgiveness. However, this is not some general idea of repentance and forgiveness. This is explicitly tied to what Jesus has done on the cross and in his resurrection. They and we have a job to do sharing this account with others. The Father will send the Holy Spirit upon them so they can be witnesses. Jesus is telling them about Pentecost.
Luke 24:44-49
44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Prayer
Spirit of the Living Christ, come upon us in the glory of your risen power; Spirit of the Living Christ, come upon us in all the humility of your wondrous love; Spirit of the Living Christ, come upon us that new life may course within our veins, new love bind us together in one family, a new vision of the kingdom of God spur us on to serve you with fearless passion.
