Knowing The Word in Luke 18:15-17, Let the Children Come to Me

Why do the disciples rebuke these parents for bringing their children to Jesus for a blessing? We do not actually know, but Jesus uses the moment for a teaching opportunity. These children with whole-hearted trust in Jesus are the antithesis of the Pharisee in the previous parable. They show us the way in their utter dependence on him and their natural spirituality. We have an in-born need for and attraction to God. When children are denied access to God or their parents ignore this need, children can be deeply damaged. All parents need to wake up to this reality.
15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Prayer:
May God the Father bless us;
May Christ take care of us;
The Holy Spirit enlighten us all the days of our life.
The Lord be our Defender and Keeper of body and soul, both now
and for ever, to the ages of ages.
