Knowing The Word in Luke 3:23-38, The Genealogy of Jesus

Like Matthew, Luke has a genealogy in his gospel. While Matthew traces Jesus back to Abraham to show his Jewish heritage, Luke traces Jesus back to Adam to show how he fulfills the hope of all humankind. Whereas Matthew traces Jesus back to the first Jew, Luke traces him back to the first human being before there ever was a distinction between Jews and Gentiles.
