Knowing The Word in Luke 1:1-4, Dedication to Theophilus

In these opening verses of Luke’s Gospel, we find out that Luke is an investigative historian. He records testimony from eyewitnesses so that his readers can be certain of exactly who Jesus is. “Theophilus” means “one who loves God,” and may be a specific man or a person who represents the reader. Whoever he is, Luke has worked hard to produce an “orderly account” for him.
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.
Prayer:
Take a moment to thank God in prayer for Luke who wrote his gospel so that you can know Jesus.
